Lara | Director & Certified Practising Speech Pathologist

(B. Speech Pathology(Honours), CPSP, MSPA)
  • Throughout her professional career Lara has worked within large multidisciplinary teams as well as smaller Speech Pathology teams. Lara works to support clients and families across environments. She has worked in various preschools, schools and high schools to support her clients in achieving their goals.

From a young age Lara knew that she wanted to help others and have a positive impact on the lives of those around her. This is reflected in her clinical practice, as Lara continues to progress with her Speech Pathology career her passion for supporting paediatric clients continues to grow! Lara loves seeing the impact that achieving therapy goals can have on a client and their ability to interact with family and friends.

Lara believes in delivering therapy to the highest standards and following the latest evidence-based approaches.

Living and working in The Shire gives Lara a special understanding of the families that live here and how supportive the local community is. Lara continues to strive to add to the community and support local families.

Lara is out in the community providing support to her clients across a range of environments, one day a week.

  • In addition to her University qualification, Lara is also a Hanen and Sounds-Write certified therapist and has attended formal training with the Stuttering Unit (specifically the Lidcombe Program). Further, to ensure on-going skill development Lara continues to attend regular professional development in all areas related to supporting children’s language, literacy, speech, fluency, voice and social communication skills.

  • The opportunity to make a meaningful, long-term impact on a child’s communication and overall development! Communication is such a fundamental part of how children connect, learn, and participate in their everyday lives, and being able to support that growth feels incredibly valuable.

I’ve always been drawn to roles that involve building relationships, and working with children and their families allows for that in a really genuine way. It’s not just about the child in isolation — it’s about understanding the whole family, their goals, and what matters most to them, then working collaboratively to support meaningful outcomes.

I also really value the trust families place in us. Being part of their journey, celebrating progress (big or small), and helping them feel confident in supporting their child is something I find both motivating and rewarding.

  • What I love most about working at Sharks Speech Pathology is the strong focus on both our clients and our team. There’s a genuine emphasis on creating a supportive, collaborative environment, which allows everyone to do their best work and ultimately leads to better outcomes for the children and families we support.

I also really value the team culture we’ve built. It’s a small, close-knit team where people feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and supporting one another. That sense of connection makes a big difference day-to-day.

From a clinical perspective, I love that we prioritise evidence-based, individualised therapy and take a family-centred approach. It means we’re not just running sessions — we’re working alongside families to create meaningful, functional change, which is incredibly rewarding.

Lastly, I’m proud of the environment we’ve created at Sharks. It’s a place where both clients and staff feel supported, and that’s something that’s really important to me.

  • My ideal day off is pretty simple — taking the dogs for a walk (or down to the beach if the weather’s good), grabbing a coffee, and then spending time with friends and family.

Any day that involves fresh air, good company, and a bit of downtime is a win. Nothing too structured — just an easy, relaxed day.

  • I cannot go past a LARGE almost latte!

  • I once made it onto the news — for falling over in the snow …

Isabella | Certified Practising Speech Pathologist

(B. Medical Science (Honours), M. Speech Pathology, CPSP, MSPA)

A graduate of the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Isabella has embraced evidence-based practices as the foundation of her work. Her goal is to provide therapy that is not only effective but also enjoyable for each child.

She tailors every therapy session to suit the unique strengths and challenges of her clients, ensuring that families feel supported and confident throughout their child’s journey.

As a Sutherland Shire local, Isabella takes pride in fostering strong community connections. Isabella’s approachable nature helps children feel at ease while working towards their goals.

Isabella is out in the community providing support to her clients across a range of environments, one day a week.

  • In addition to her University qualifications Isabella has completed formal training to support her on-going development and best support her clients.

Isabella is a Hanen trained therapist and has completed Sounds-Write training.

She has also completed Key Word Sign training.

  • I discovered my interest in working with children and families during my university placements. I love that working in the pediatric space offers holistic and family-centered care, and that therapy can always be creative and engaging when it is tailored to a child's individual needs and interests. It is rewarding to see how supporting children to achieve their communication goals allows them to have their own autonomy and brings them closer to their family and friends.

  • I love that we are a well-supported, close, and collaborative team. I love having a diverse caseload and supporting my clients and their families to make progress, and that no two days are ever the same. Working in Cronulla is an added bonus, where I get to enjoy the local cafés for our weekly team lunches and an afternoon run along the esplanade.

  • I love starting my day with a run to Cronulla Beach, followed by a swim, then a walk and coffee with my dog and husband. After that, you'll find me at the local markets or an art gallery, then out for a nice seaside lunch, and an easy afternoon that moves into an evening catching up with friends.

  • My daily coffee order is a cappuccino and if I'm after a sweet treat, it's usually an MnM cookie!

  • I'm a morning person and love starting my day with a dog walk or a run!

  • Jess is currently studying her Masters in Speech Pathology.

Jess also heads out and about in the local community to support our Sharks in daycare/school/home.

  • Jess has completed Sounds-Write training.

  • I love the silliness and joy of working with kids and the impact we can make working with them and their family! I still think of special teachers and grownups from my childhood with fond memories, so I hope to be one of those people to our clients.

  • I love that everyone gets on so well in our small close-knit team. Our team lunches are a real highlight of the week!

  • Coffee at home, followed by a trip to our local beach with my husband and dog. Maybe a trip to Bunnings on the way home to get a sausage sizzle and some new plants for my garden.

  • Ooh it depends what mood I’m in… Could be a flat white, long black, or could be an iced chai latte!

  • I was born in the UK, and moved to Australia 9 years ago which has left me with a blended accent. My family at home think I have an Aussie twang but everyone here tells me I still sound fairly British!

Ellie | Allied Health Assistant (Level 2)

  • Ellie is currently studying a Bachelors in Speech Pathology.

  • Ellie is currently completing the Meaningful Speech course to better support Gestalt Language Processors.

  • I enjoy working with children and families because I love to partner with parents to support their child during key stages of development and watch as their confidence grows.

  • My favourite thing about working at Sharks Speech Pathology is being a part of the supportive, collaborative team where the shared focus is to provide client-centred therapy that makes a genuine difference for families.

  • My favourite way to spend my day off is swimming and tanning with my friends at the beach on a hot summer day.

  • My go to coffee order is an iced latte.

  • I have run the Sydney half marathon with one of my best friends!

Being able to celebrate small wins together and help families feel empowered and supported is incredibly rewarding.

There is a strong emphasis on collaboration, learning from one another, and working together to continually grow and develop as clinicians. I especially value how child- and family-centred the clinic is—it truly feels like a workplace where you are supported and valued. I also enjoy our regular team lunches and coffees, with the added bonus of being able to explore Cronulla’s great cafés.

  • I love starting the day with a beach walk, coffee, and a swim, followed by a lunch catch-up with friends at a café, then finishing with some time to relax and a yummy dinner.

  • I usually order either a cappuccino or mocha if I’m feeling like something sweet.

  • I love being outdoors – you will find me swimming, walking, or running in the sun.
